Educational intelligence and analytics supporting innovation

In collaboration with all areas across the PVCE Portfolio and the Faculties, theoretical frameworks and systematic approaches are developed to determine the effectiveness and viability of educational programs of work, individual projects and tools. Evaluation findings are disseminated internally and externally.

Support is provided for educational research projects, including advice and assistance in the drafting of ethics documentation.

The Digital Uplift Project is an integral component of the UNSW 2025 Strategic Plan. The magnitude of the time and resources allocated to the project necessitate a thorough evaluation of its effectiveness, for continuous improvement and to inform future models of learning design.

The Educational Intelligence team works closely with Educational Design and Development Services to ensure the evaluation of individual courses and the Digital Uplift Project as a whole.

As explained in more detail in the Student Voice section, UNSW systematically evaluates the quality of teaching and student experience via multiple channels including myExperience Surveys, QILT national surveys and the International Student Barometer, to mention a few. Educational Intelligence Services team plays an active role in the reporting of the results and also the continuous improvement of the tools used for the evaluation.

The Student Experience of Teaching Index is a metric developed by the Educational Intelligence Services in collaboration with the School of Mathematics and Statistics based on the h-index used to measure the quality and impact of researchers’ work. The dashboard enables comparison of values. Differential access to the dashboard is controlled by user roles and enables teachers to benchmark their impact each term.

Several students across Computing Science and Education have been supervised in undergraduate and postgraduate projects exploring a range of technologies and approaches to improve student experience. These range from the use of mixed reality, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence, Natural language processing and data analytics.
