Dr Melanie White is an Associate Professor in Sociology and Anthropology in the School of Social Sciences, UNSW Arts & Social Sciences
 
Melanie brings empathy and generosity into the classroom, and successfully creates learning environments that encourage students to exhibit intellectual openness, rigorous scholarship, and ethical and reflective practice. Melanie inspires her students to make deep connections between their lived experience and sociological theory. This is achieved through teaching techniques that have been described by students as ‘effervescent’.
 
Melanie is active in learning and teaching leadership. She is currently Deputy Head of School (Education) for the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture, and has a particular interest in capacity-building and commitment to the student experience.
 
Melanie is the proud recipient of numerous teaching awards. In 2015, she received the UNSW Arts & Social Sciences Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and in 2017, she received the UNSW Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
