Moodle Enhance project enters Phase 2 in Term 1 2022

Published 17 February 2022

The Moodle Enhance project aims to improve the student and staff experience with Moodle using a new theme and course template. The Moodle Enhance theme gives courses a clean, modern look and feel, while the course template provides a structure for the organisation of key course information such as the course schedule, assessment guidelines and support resources.

Phase 1 for the project concluded in 2021, after a pilot encompassing 29 courses and 4100+ students across all UNSW Sydney faculties and UNSW Global. Feedback showed that staff and students view Moodle Enhance as an improvement from the current Moodle theme – the new Moodle looks contemporary and helps intuitively organises course content and activities.

From January 2022, Moodle Enhance moved to Phase 2, with an expanded pilot including ~7,000 students in small programs of study across UNSW Sydney and Global, and all first-year courses in UNSW Canberra. This lets the team better evaluate the student experience navigating between courses. It also gives the opportunity to gauge user response to critical improvements in the theme and template based on the feedback from Phase 1.

Faculty consultations and the Phase 2 outcomes will inform PVC Education & Student Experience plans for a subsequent university rollout of the new look Moodle in coming months.
