SoTL series: Human research ethics for educational research

Are you interested in doing educational research but are not sure if ethics approval is required? Do you feel daunted by the process of applying for ethics? This information session will provide an introduction to human research ethics for educational research at UNSW and helpful guidance on how to complete an effective ethics application. Specific topics to be covered, include: What is human research ethics and what are the benefits of applying? When is ethics required for educational research? How to apply? What are the features of a quality ethics submission? What do ethics review panels look for when assessing submissions?

This session is open to any UNSW staff interested in applying for human research ethics. Those new to educational research and the scholarship of learning and teaching (SOTL) are especially welcome.

Dr Anna Rowe

Dr Anna Rowe SFHEA
Senior Lecturer Academic Development 

Dr Anna Rowe is a Senior Lecturer, Academic Development in the Academic and Education Focussed Development team, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Student Experience Portfolio. She has published widely in the broad field of higher education learning and teaching, with specific research interests including work-integrated learning, curriculum development, student feedback and the role of emotions in learning. Anna is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Work-Integrated Learning. 
 

Dr Chantal Bostock

Dr Chantal Bostock 
Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law and Justice  

Dr Chantal Bostock is an Education Focused Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Justice and sits on the NSW Medical Council. She previously worked as a lawyer in private practice and government in Australia and the United Kingdom and was formerly a member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. She has published widely on Administrative Law topics. 

 

Prof Jihyun Lee

Professor Jihyun Lee 

Jihyun is a Professor in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, School of Education. She teaches statistics, educational assessment, and research methodologies. Her research focuses on people’s perception about Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. She previously worked as a survey/test developer at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, USA. She is currently serving as the Panel B (ADL) Chair of the Human Research Ethics Application (HREA).
