UNSW's Student Learning team is excited to share that the redesign of the University Preparation Program (Uni Prep) has been officially approved!

Uni Prep is the UNSW Enabling program – a fee-free program of foundational learning that prepares students for undergraduate study. After successful completion, students can apply for a range of UNSW degrees.

This milestone reaffirms UNSW’s commitment to widening participation to ensure students, wherever and whenever, can access and succeed at university. The program is designed for students with educational disadvantages who do not meet UNSW’s ATAR requirements and mature age students.

  1. The current UPP program (6114) and UNSW Prep 17-19 (6115), as taught in 2025, will be combined into one program from 2026.
  2. Students can choose to study from four discipline streams: Arts, Design, Architecture & Criminology (ADAC), Business, Science and Engineering. Students have the opportunity to study some faculty electives, which they can apply for credit for when they start a UNSW degree.
  3. Each stream’s length has been standardised into 36 units of credit. For students studying full time, the program will take a year to complete.
  4. Students can experience campus life and access UNSW’s student support services and facilities, the same as undergraduate students.
  5. Students can choose to study full time or part time (but they must complete the program in three years).

What’s next?

With the new program launching next year, Student Learning teams have been busy redesigning courses and launching a new brand campaign. Charlotte Long, Dominic Fitzsimmons, Annie Zhai and Lauren Middleton have been working closely with Shashma Bonnet-Rooke (Future Students Faculty Partner) and Mark Dadic (Future Students Marketing Lead) to refresh the program’s digital presence and recruitment strategies. This includes launching the new Uni Prep website and using data driven insights to uplift Uni Prep’s branding.
