Teaching Gateway platform migration and refresh underway

For almost 15 years, the UNSW Teaching Gateway has supported educators with practical resources, guidance, and tools to enhance teaching and learning. What began as a resource for the UNSW community has grown into a widely used reference point for the higher education sector. Each year, it attracts an average of 600,000 page views and is accessed by close to 300,000 unique users from universities across Australia and internationally.
Now, the Teaching Gateway is entering an exciting new chapter.
As part of UNSW's broader digital ecosystem consolidation, the Teaching Gateway is being migrated to the Adobe platform. The migration includes a refresh of the site’s content and user experience, aiming to make it easier for educators to access high-quality, relevant teaching resources.
An improved experience, built around users
The refreshed Teaching Gateway will retain the resources that staff know and value while improving the user experience through clearer navigation, updated information architecture (inspired by Harvard University’s approaches) and good-practice, contemporary content layouts.
Importantly, no valuable or up-to-date resources will be lost during the migration. Only content that is outdated, duplicated or no longer relevant will be archived.
Every existing page will automatically redirect to a corresponding page on the new platform, ensuring bookmarks and links within existing resources continue to work.
The project is informed by findings from the 2025 Teaching Gateway user experience survey, particularly feedback on navigation and top-level menus, with further user consultations being planned for the coming months. The new information architecture also draws on best practice across the higher education sector, alongside UNSW's own digital expertise.
Progress so far
A significant amount of work has already been completed.
Between February and April, content owner teams across the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (PVCE) Portfolio conducted a comprehensive audit of every section and page within the Teaching Gateway.
The audit found that:
- 43% of existing pages can be archived because the content is no longer current or relevant
- and a further 16% of pages can be merged into other sections to create more streamlined content.
These changes are an important step towards improving the overall quality and usability of the Teaching Gateway.
What's happening now and next steps
The project is currently in its second phase, with content owners across the PVCE Portfolio collaborating with other subject matter experts and working alongside the migration team to review and rewrite content.
To support this work, a temporary content editing freeze is in place on the existing Teaching Gateway. This ensures all updates are made within the new platform and that content is accurate and consistent when the refreshed site launches.
The migration is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, which means the revamped Teaching Gateway will be live from December.
Looking ahead, the project team is also exploring opportunities to further strengthen UNSW's resources and our showcase of educational excellence by considering how content from the UNSW Education & Student Experience website could be integrated with the Teaching Gateway in the future.
