The new Ideas Portal is fostering grassroots EdTech innovation across UNSW
Published on 10 April 2026
The launch of the Ideas Portal marks a key milestone in implementing the Governance & Innovation for Digital Education (GUIDE) framework. GUIDE streamlines how EdTech ideas that seek to improve teaching and learning are surfaced, supported and progressed across the University.
Why GUIDE?
UNSW’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (PVCE) and IT, in partnership with faculties, are introducing GUIDE to address long-standing challenges in how EdTech ideas are supported and developed across the University. GUIDE provides a clear, transparent and coordinated pathway for ideas to progress – big or small, and at all stages of development.
A single-entry point for all EdTech ideas
The GUIDE Ideas Portal helps reduce duplication, improve visibility and connect staff with the right support.
It allows staff to:
- Submit their ideas to receive targeted advice and guidance from central teams, with various development pathways available
- See what others are working on
- Identify opportunities for collaboration.
All submissions are reviewed through a structured process involving faculties, the PVCE Portfolio and UNSW IT to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
Submit your idea
You can now submit your digital innovation idea through GUIDE and the Ideas Portal.
We invite all academic and professional staff to contribute. Ideas at any stage of development are welcome – whether you’re exploring a new concept, looking to improve an existing system or process, or proposing something ready to pilot.
We encourage staff to seek faculty input and endorsement, where appropriate, to help refine ideas and align them with local priorities. For guidance on local endorsement processes, see here.
Meet GUIDE: Upcoming information sessions
To celebrate the launch, the GUIDE team is hosting informal sessions across campus to help staff get started with the Ideas Portal.
These sessions are an opportunity to:
- Learn how the Ideas Portal and review process work
- Chat to the GUIDE team about your idea and get practical advice for submission
- Meet the project leadership team
- Connect with colleagues interested in education innovation
- No preparation needed – just drop in for a chat, and you can say hello to Rose, our robotic dog!
Visit the GUIDE SharePoint site to explore the framework, access resources, and stay up to date on upcoming initiatives.
