Get Real! Career-focused assessments to equip students for real-world challenges

Presented by Dr Yenni Tim & Dr Kevin Liu

A Connections seminar

How do we strengthen our students’ work-readiness and equip them with career-focused skills? How can we better design our assessments to cultivate industry-engaged learning at scale?

Dr Yenni Tim, recipient of the Heinz Harant Award for Teaching Innovation last year, along with colleague Dr Kevin Liu, will introduce the Sandbox Education Model, an authentic assessment model that incorporates real-world challenges in course assessments for all students – not just the select few who are lucky enough to go on placement.

Already, it has been implemented in six undergraduate and postgraduate Business courses across three Schools to promote practical learning. Over 1,200 students have successfully created solutions for industry problems - ranging from cyber security to retirement savings - with support and feedback from more than 75 industry experts from 16 leading industry partners.

Come and see how easy it can be transferred to any course and be empowered to design challenge-driven assessments that bridge the gap between industry knowledge and education.
